“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning to sail my ship.”
~Louisa Mae Alcott

October 12-13, 2024

Come on out to the farm, away from digital technologies and cell phones; screens, and beeping alarms. Come outside and place your hands on the antique tools of the hearth and home. Sharpen your knife, build a grand fire, explore herbs and plants, sing songs while your hands remember the work of women. From the seasoned grandmother, to the daughter addicted to her cell phone, our experienced women-folk will empower guests with the skills, knowledge, and experience of working outdoors with your hands in harmony and skill.

Let the magic of Turtle Island bring you closer to the sacredness of being a woman and form lasting bonds with other women. Come alone or bring along one of your favorite women!! Spaces are limited so don’t wait to register!

Current cultural trends often steer women away from the chance to get familiar with both the tools that shaped our past as well as modern machinery like chainsaws and power-equipment. Avoiding a sharp tool or power tool simply ‘because it is too dangerous’ is not a valid point at Turtle Island. We feel that true safety comes from the confidence one develops in getting familiar with a tools, rather than bearing blind ignorance of proper use and care. WoodsWoman 101 - is an on-going series of weekend workshops to help women folk of all ages and backgrounds get familiar with and experience the “woodsy-ways.” Assorted classes taught by skilled women will range from blacksmithing and chain sawing to yoga and flower essence creation.

Overnight lodging is in a pristine open-style, raised-floor cabin. Your home-away-from-home will have 3 walls, tin roof, and a gorgeous stone hearth. You'll lay down a comfy sleeping pad (luxurious air-mattresses are welcome but not provided) top that with a warm sleeping bag and a favorite pillow from home. You'll be falling asleep to the gentle sounds of our sweet-water creek, and feeling the breeze on your cheeks. The outhouse is only a stone's throw away and we'll show you how to wash up and heat water over the fire. 3 delicious and nutritious meals will be provided by our staff in Nacho Mamas Kitchen! C'mon out and go wild with us.
