Academy of the Natural World

During this season of great changes and adaptation in education and academic situations, Turtle Island is pleased to host this outdoor learning event for participants from ages 8-12.

photo by Wendy McCarty This educational offering just for children is designed to restore the relationship between humans and mother nature. It will be an in depth program featuring a variety of wilderness survival and outdoor living skills. These skills include but definitely aren't limited to fire making (in both dry and wet conditions), debris shelter construction, plant and animal identification, growing food, foraging knowledge, tracking, knots, first aid, outdoor cooking, bird language, and more. By the time these young men and women are done with our academy we wouldn't be surprised if they begin teaching their own parents a thing or two about the outdoor world.

Each session will be on Friday from 9am-5pm. Students will bring their own lunch for the day; however, snacks will be provided from foraging adventures on the land. Each session will be $80, and if two or more students sign up together we will offer a discounted price of $70 per session.
