As spring unfolds at Turtle Island Preserve, we are struck by the natural beauty all around us even as our nation struggles with how to respond to the COVID-19 health crisis. It is reassuring to participate in the familiar and unbreakable cycles of the natural world—getting our gardens ready, harvesting the early wild greens, dusting off the outdoor kitchen—amid so much uncertainty and disruption.
We truly believe that the lessons and example of Turtle Island Preserve are more important than ever at this time, but we will always place the health and well-being of our campers, staff, and volunteers before any other consideration. For this reason, we have decided to postpone our Families Learning Together 2020 event scheduled for April 18. We will announce a new date as soon as possible. It is too early to tell how this crisis will affect our summer programming, but we will continue to monitor the development of this unpredictable situation and make that call as the camp season approaches.
We ask that the 100's of people involved in our annual gathering from ticket-holders to volunteers to vendors please "rest easy" on the matter to allow the larger situation to unfold, giving us time to assess how the new event will be restructured. (Ticket sales for this event directly affect the scholarship funds that we allocate for summer youth camps, and its too soon to determine how the summer season will even go at this point.)
Thank you for your understanding and support. We very much hope that we will see you again soon, and that we will have the opportunity to gather again and give thanks for another season at TIP. Please take care of yourselves, each other, and be well!
